The holiday season is upon us and for most of us, that means it’s time to monitor our wallets until our gifting lists are checked off and our holiday travel booked.
That doesn’t mean that you can’t spruce up your living space to give it a fresh feel just in time for hosting the holidays at home – whether you are looking forward to guests, or not-so-much.
We put together a list of six great design hacks to freshen up your home without spending a load of money or time.
1. Add Plants & Greenery
This may sound simple, but adding plants to any room can change the look and feel of a space.
Succulents can be a good addition to lower light areas if you want to stick with live plants. If you need the look without the responsibility faux greenery has come a long way in recent years. Don’t hesitate to use them to add brightness to any area, including those that don’t get enough light for living plants.
2. Small Décor Pieces
A unique collection of accessories goes a long way to making a space personal. Choose items that have significance to you. This is a great way to display a collection. Putting every turtle you’ve ever collected together in one place might be a lot. But creating little groupings of them throughout your home creates a common thread and brings you joy!
Mix textures, colors, and sizes. You can also mix it up with practical touches. Woven baskets add visual interest while being a great place to stash blankets, books, remotes, or whatever else you have to move out of your way every time you want to lounge on the couch.
3. Fresh Paint
One of the least expensive, most impactful design hacks is a coat of paint. There really are no rules to follow here. Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Paint is easy to change, so take some risks!
4. Throw in Some Texture
Textural elements add a ton of visual interest without taking up space. Adding some texture can easily be an afternoon or weekend project. Create a board and batten accent wall. Keep it the same color for a subtle change or combine it with a new paint color for a more dramatic effect. Picture frame molding or crown molding will both add a luxe vibe.
5. New Interior Doors
If you’re up for a slightly bigger project replacing all your interior doors gives your whole home an upgrade without doing any demo or construction. If you’re in the mood for a big change paint your new interior doors black and the frames to match. It’s a bold, trendy look that somehow still looks timeless.
6. Window Treatments
It’s easy to stop noticing those blinds that have been on all your windows since you moved in. There are so many options, and layering them is a great way to have versatile looks along with functionality. A layered style like heavier curtains over sheer ones or woven shades looks great and helps with insulation, so you might even see the benefit in your electric bill.
Creating the perfect living space is definitely our thing. If you need some help in your space let us know, we’d love to work with you!
