I am very inspired by the work of Bjarke Ingels Group, or BIG. They’ve designed iconic structures all over the world, but in the U.S. they’re known for Google’s North Bayshore Campus and all these beautiful, attention-grabbing buildings in New York City like VIA West 57 in New York City, and 66 Hudson Yards in New York City, also known as the “spiral.” Here in Miami, BIG designed the Grove at Grand Bay condominium complex.
Ellinikon Park Rise in Athens, Greece. It’s a residential complex with this incredible curved, concave façade that creates this cascade of residences. Between the views, the private gardens, and full-height walls of glass on each room, every single resident has maximum exposure to the surrounding environment. The complex is also built in a way to facilitate interactions with nature and the local climate in everyday life.
It’s a mix of their creativity and their dedication towards designing buildings that benefit the natural environment. So, their work is extremely environmentally conscious and yet very experimental and creative at the same time.
They influence me to think outside the box, especially when it comes to sustainable designs. BIG takes green-focused living to a whole other level by showing us all these bold and ambitious ideas for how humans can live more in sync with nature. Their work is often labeled as “eccentric” or “loud,” when they’re really just trying to promote a more practical way of living for the future of mankind.
I would love to be involved in the development of something like the entire Ellinikon Park which is basically an entire urban ecosystem combining residential spaces, shopping, workplaces, leisure, entertainment, and all kinds of cultural activities.
